OUR COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY
 
BCA seeks to uphold the core beliefs expressed in God’s word. These scriptural-based beliefs will be the defining culture in our school.  Anything expressed, decorated, worn, or possessed by any staff, student, or family while attending or representing our school must support these core beliefs.  We strive to draw each person closer to Christ and these core values will aid in this mission.

BETHESDA CHRISTIAN ACADEMY SEEKS TO EXPRESS THESE CORE BELIEFS BY WHAT WE SAY AND DO:


1. We must demonstrate love, honor, and respect for God and all others equally. We are to live differently than those in the world.  God has put to death hostility and sin and made grace abundant for all.    

“For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility.” Ephesians 2:14-16 (ESV)
 
“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”  Galatians 3:28 (ESV)

 

2.  Every person is valued by God and thus has value to our world. We are each image bearers of God. Regardless of race, economic status, or culture, we are EACH equipped by God to do a mighty work.

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:27 (ESV)
 
“If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself," you are doing well. But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors.” James 2:8-9 (ESV)
 
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10 (ESV)
 
“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.” 1 Peter 2:9–10 (ESV)
 
“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.” Psalm 139:13-14 (ESV)


3. We seek to develop deeper relationships with each person to understand the value in each person as we strive to build a community of learners that will honor God with their actions, attitudes, and lives.   

"I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.  The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one.” John 17:20-22 (ESV)
 
“And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”” Luke 10:27 (ESV)

 
“For though I am free from all, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win more of them. To the Jews I became as a Jew, in order to win Jews. To those under the law I became as one under the law (though not being myself under the law) that I might win those under the law. To those outside the law I became as one outside the law (not being outside the law of God but under the law of Christ) that I might win those outside the law. To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some. I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessings.” 1 Corinthians 9:19–23 (ESV)


BETHESDA CHRISTIAN ACADEMY SEEKS TO EXPRESS THESE CORE VALUES IN WHAT WE SAY AND DO:

1. We will understand race, ethnicity, culture, and any differences as a reflection of our commitment to the Gospel of Christ.

“So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.”  Ephesians 2:19-22 (ESV)

“And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him.” Acts 17:26-27 (ESV)

“So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.  Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” Philippians 2:1-4 (ESV)


2. We will seek to handle all things as Christ would handle them.  Knowing we are not perfect, we will accept responsibility for mistakes or failures and seek restoration.

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23 (ESV)
 
“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” Ephesians 4:32 (ESV)
 
“If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother.” Matthew 18:15 (ESV)
 
“So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. Matthew 5:23–24” (ESV)

“Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted.” Galatians 6:1 (ESV)

3. We agree the focus in the school environment will be focused only on instructional objectives while drawing families alongside as part of the support team.

“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6 (ESV)
 
“And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” Deuteronomy 6:6-9 (ESV)


4. Bullying and racial discrimination is not tolerated under any circumstance. Discipline is used to refocus any student and promote redemption through Christlikeness.  

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17
 
“Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.” Matthew 10:31
 
“For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.” Hebrews 12:11 (ESV)

“My son, do not despise the LORD’s discipline or be weary of his reproof, for the LORD reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights.” Proverbs 3:11–12 (ESV)

“Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” Ephesians 6:4 (ESV)

“My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone brings him back, let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.” James 5:19–20 (ESV)
