Curriculum at Bethesda Christian AcademyBethesda Christian Academy uses a variety of teaching materials and strategies in order to provide the most innovative, successful learning in the Triangle. Listed below are some of the basic curriculum guides that are used at BCA.
ACSI Bible: ACSI has constructed a textbook series that is unrivaled in its ability to clearly articulate the truths of the Bible — the ACSI Elementary Bible Textbook Series. This series introduces the students at all levels to Scripture so that they not only understand the Word of God, but are motivated to obey it. Concerned Communication: Over 75,000 words were studied and examined as Concerned Communication constructed its highly-acclaimed Spelling Series for first through seventh graders. Each lesson contains high-frequency words of interest to students, relevant Scripture verses, Bible stories, moral principles and a variety of other creative, Christ-centered elements. An interesting variety of exercises allows the teacher to integrate spelling into the total language arts process. ACSI Math / Bob Jones Press: Bob Jones Press and ACSI Math develop a variety of concepts including addition, subtraction, geometry, money, measurement, multiplication, division, and algebra using manipulatives. BJU & ACSI emphasize a balanced approach to teaching math using problem solving, writing equations, composing word problems, reading graphs, practice skills and review. These also provide an introduction to calculator and computer skills while integrating Christian principles and character traits throughout each lesson. A Beka: The A Beka Book Language Arts Program gives students the tools they need to write and speak clearly and effectively and to read with comprehension, appreciation and discrimination. The goals are important to Christian schools because God has chosen to reveal Himself to mankind in a written form, the Bible, and has commissioned Christians to use the gift of language to communicate His truths to others. This program that has been refined over the past 40 years to sharpen thinking and listening skills, increase reading and writing, speaking and vocabulary abilities as well as to train students to be comfortable with correct grammar, pronunciation and the usage in conversation and other forms of speech. TechWorks (technology/computer): TechWorks is an exciting program that helps teachers integrate technology skills into the curriculum for Grades K-8. It's the first comprehensive program to introduce technology skills at appropriate grade levels while linking them with other skills and concepts being taught. The complete TechWorks program consists of nine kits--one for each grade from Kindergarten through Grade 8. LifeWay Quest Bible Series: Our Middle School Bible curriculum is true to God's Word and applicable to the real issues students face in their everyday lives. Quest teaches the importance of developing Bible-based wisdom as students reflect on the meaning and application of God's Word in relation to their exciting, realistic challenges. A Beka History: A Beka History gives our students a truthful portrayal of peoples, lands, religions, ideals, heroes, triumphs, and setbacks. The various topics give students and historical perspective and instill within them an intelligent pride for their own country and a desire to help it come back to its traditional values. ACS Science/Health: ACS Science and Health presents the universe as the direct creation of God and refutes the man-made idea of evolution. The current issues present God as the Great Designer and Lawgiver, without whom the evident design and laws of nature would be inexplicable. |
